According to officials, there is high flu activity throughout the state so it's important for those who have not yet gotten a flu shot-especially health care workers-to get one.

Kids under the age of five have been particularly vulnerable to the flu virus this year, with a higher rate of confirmed cases based on the percentage of the population.

"This year's vaccine is a good match for the strains of flu that are circulating and it is not too late to be vaccinated".

It has been a deadly flu season across Canada and Saskatchewan this year. H3N2, the strain largely responsible for last year's outbreak, has so far been less common than the H1N1 strain.

The CDC recommends that everyone 6-months-old and older get a flu shot every year.

Cameron Kaiser said the victim had not received a flu shot and did not have any known pre-existing health disorders.

The flu spreads "mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk". That applies to data collected on both adults and children.

A child has died from the flu, the New Jersey Health Department announced Tuesday, making it the first flu-related pediatric death of the season in the state. The 64-year-old man hadn't received his vaccination, according to the county. People who suspect they are infected with influenza should stay home from work or school and seek evaluation by a medical provider. "When you get vaccinated, you are not just protecting yourself, you are also protecting the people you love". Nationally, 80,000 people in that age group died after contracting the virus.

The child, whose identity was not disclosed, was from the southwest county area and was taken to a hospital outside the county, where the death occurred last week, according to Riverside University Health System officials.
