Thompson's fine is relatively small in comparison to punishments a few other National Basketball Association players have faced in recent weeks.

The NBA on Thursday announced it has fined Cleveland Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson $15,000 for flipping off fans during a game earlier this week in Brooklyn.

Cleveland Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson (13) drives past Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson (11) in the first half of an NBA basketball game, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, in Cleveland.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the National Basketball Association has fined the Cleveland big man for flipping the bird at fans at Barclays Center.

During the game, Thompson scored 19 points, had 14 rebounds and successfully defended Nets' Spencer Dinwiddie's three-point attempt to win the game at the buzzer. After the missed shot, Thompson turned and stared down fans seated near the floor before giving the obscene gesture as he turned and walked away.
