Of late, after another group filed a PIL seeking a ban on the film, taking objection to its content for affecting the sentiments of Hindus, the Gujarat High Court made a decision to take strict action, albeit against the organization. This year, Abhishek Kapoor's Kedarnath seems to be following the same route.

Kedarnath box office collection Day 1 LIVE updates: Amid the ongoing controversy, the much-awaited Kedarnath starring debutante Sara Ali Khan along with Sushant Singh Rajput releases today. District Magistrate Nainital Vinod Kr Suman announced the ban on Friday in Haridwar, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar district. Ever since the trailer and teaser of Kedarnath hit the web, priests from the shrine-town have been wildly protesting against the film, saying that it is a case of "love-jihad", as the two lead characters are Hindu and Muslim, who fall in love. While tweeting his discontent, he said that protests had begun in Rudraprayag and Kotdwar.

The chairman added that the priests were also protesting against the film as there "vulgar dance sequences" being shot around the shrine.

Coming to the petition that was filed by the International Hindu Sena, it stated that the film promoted "love jihad" and also because of the kissing scene that was portrayed.

"The storyline is imaginary and the movie is an untrustworthy story of love between a Hindu Brahmin girl and a Muslim boy, connected to Uttarakhand floods that killed several pilgrims", the petitioners said. In short, Kedarnath will not release in the main and important centers of Uttarakhand.

Ajay objected to the film's poster that "shows the hero, a Muslim carrying the heroine, a Hindu", in a palanquin with the Kedarnath shrine in the background.
