Jurgen Klopp was thrilled with Liverpool's comeback win away to an "aggressive" Burnley that moved his side back to within two points of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Klopp became embroiled in a heated discussion with Sean Dyche on the field after the game, before pleading for more protection after Gomez suffered a nasty ankle injury.

Liverpool came from behind to win on Wednesday night after Jack Cork's opener thanks to goals from James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Jurgen Klopp then sent for substitutes Mohamed Salah and Firmino and it changed the game, with the latter scoring the victor less than three minutes after his introduction, staying onside to finish a set-piece struggling Burnley defended badly.

"Joe's injured and probably not only a little bit", said Klopp after his side's victory.

Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson missed the Burnley win through injuries picked up in the Merseyside derby, and while Robertson in particular is expected to have recovered, Klopp is unlikely to take any risks with his key players.

Seven changes seemed a surprise from the Liverpool boss, however the vast majority of Premier League teams did make rotation the mid-week keyword.

"I said (to the officials) after the first challenge, I don't know who did it, but it was like a sliding challenge where the player came in from six or seven yards and gets the ball". We don't know at the moment and we have to see tomorrow.

Klopp's response was to ask Mohamed Salah and Firmino to warm up, but before they could be introduced Liverpool were level. It was no foul but you have to be careful if you're going in at full speed.

"There were a lot of situations, challenges". You've got to win the ball, you've got to challenge against these boys. There was nothing to say "wow, too much" - they were normal challenges. Somebody has to tell you to stop doing it, make two more steps and make a normal challenge.

At right-back, Joe Gomez needed treatment after colliding with a perimeter fence when Ben Mee halted his run down the wing, eventually departing midway through the first half to cut short Trent Alexander-Arnold's evening of rest.

"I think the referee has to make sure that things like this don't happen constantly".

With 12 wins and 3 draws after 15 games it is also now the best ever start for a top flight league season in the club's 126 year history, beating the 1978/79 and 1990/91 starts.
