"Aquaman" Sequel Already In Discussion At Warner Bros

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films have released a brand new clip from James Wan's highly-anticipated superhero epic Aquaman, featuring Amber Heard's Mera trying to convince Arthur Curry that he should fight for his right for the King of Atlantis as the true heir to the throne. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich has already kicked off talks for Aquaman 2, buoyed by the news that the film is expected to earn north of $65 million on its opening weekend later this month.

That being said, it's worth noting this is still the early stages, meaning a writer hasn't even been hired yet, so it's worth keeping that in mind. Considering Wonder Woman's box office (and pop cultural) performance, however, and how it potentially compares to Aquaman's, chances are pretty good that the guy who can talk to fish will be doing more fish-talking in a future film. With uncertain futures for both Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman is the franchise's current top star, with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn making a strong push with her own film (she costars in Birds of Prey) coming soon. Whether Wan will direct again is also a big unknown, but what is known, per THR, is that Heard will see her payday "balloon" considering the sheer amount of work she put into the first movie. When asked about a sequel by SYFY WIRE during the Aquaman press junket, Wan said that it's his tradition to let the first film come out before discussing such things.
