The Duke said: "George said to me this morning where are you going daddy and I said I'm going to see some pilots who fly fast jets".

The Prince, who was a helicopter pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, and also served with the Royal Air Force, was even reunited with some of his former colleagues in Cyprus. And so do your families, some of whom we had the chance to meet yesterday at a party at Kensington Palace.

He said: "He saw I had some in my hand and he had a little mischievous nod and wink and looked like he wanted one to throw back at us".

And on Wednesday, they arrived at RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus bearing presents from the children, wives and parents from Coningsby invited to the palace event.

The British military base in Cyprus is now used for both reconnaissance and bombing missions against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

"But I'm very, very grateful that the Royal Household put that together for our families, because it's more hard for the people at home".

Catherine gave her husband a loving look as they laughed together by the tree. A large portion of them have children who will have a parent away over the festive period.

Over Christmas, 11,000 men and women will be deployed by the Army, Royal Navy and RAF in 35 countries, Prince William said in a brief speech.

It's understood that both the Sussexes and the Cambridges will be at Sandringham for the traditional royal family Christmas festivities.
