Blockchain also said that the main benefit of crypto airdrops for consumers is that they are able to "test, trade, and transact" unfamiliar crypto assets without having to mine or invest first. Stellar will be only the fourth currency supported by Blockchain; we're joining Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Bitcoin Cash as top-line options in one of the most popular digital wallets in the world.

The intent of this give away is to popularize Stellar Lumens (XLM) and attract attention from wallet holders to the technology and company itself. It seems that they want to offer more to their users through an airdrop, celebrating their new collaboration with Blockchain.

Blockchain plans to distribute $125 million worth of Stellar Lumens (XLM) to its 28 million users who register for the historic airdrop.

Blockchain.info has a crypto wallet where users themselves take care of their cryptocurrencies.

According to Blockchain.com, airdrops are one of the mechanisms through which crypto community can "drive decentralization and adoption for new networks".

Blockchain Wallet has teamed up with the Stanford d.school's emerging tech initiative, Code.org, and Network for Good for this airdrop, stating that these organizations also share their vision in the power of the Stellar network for a better future.

Explaining the choice of Stellar for the airdrop, the blog says that Stellar's token (XLM) enables quick, low cost, worldwide transactions, even when millions of people are using it at once.

Jed McCaleb, co-founder of the Stellar Development Foundation, believes airdrops can be powerful tools when it comes to building the crypto ecosystem and boosting mainstream adoption. There has been a significant uptick in the Stellar graph since the announcement was made. Currently, XLM is the sixth largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. And we'll be partnering with charity: water to make donations in support of their mission.

In a statement, McCaleb described the arrangement this way: "We believe that airdrops are central to creating a more inclusive digital economy". We're giving them all away. Also, established blockchain-based companies like cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet services carry out airdrops. Our hope is to eventually have global citizens own and use lumens, in both developing and developed economies. But we'd be nowhere without the tens of millions of people that have used the Blockchain Wallet and allowed us to pioneer user-controlled finance at scale.
