Netflix orders half a dozen new animated projects

Kids and Family content is such a massive part of Netflix with almost 60% of members signing in for it each month. Cory Carson, a preschool series from Kuku Studios in California based on VTech Electronics' popular Go! Go! Smart Wheels from VTech Electronics, Go! Go!

For the TV shows, animator Craig McCracken (The Powerpuff Girls) is working on a series about a young boy turned superhero, Kid Cosmic (2020). Here are some of Netflix's upcoming animation series. The series has a female hero, half human and half divine, and will be set in a mythical Mesoamerican-inspired world.

The streaming giant has also greenlit a limited series called Maya and the Three from Jorge Gutierrez (The Book of Life) who will direct some of the series' nine episodes and co-write the others.

There is also Trash Truck (2020), a show from Max Keane (Dear Basketball); The Willoughbys (2020), a movie from BRON Animation and writer/director Kris Pearn (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2); and Jacob and the Sea Beast (2022), a feature film written and directed by Chris Williams (Moana).

The Willoughbys (2020) is about abandoned children adapting to the modern world. It will feature an all-star voice cast including Ricky Gervais, Maya Rudolph, Will Forte, Martin Short, Alessia Cara and Jane Krakowski. Due for release in 2021, My Father's Dragon is a 2D animated family feature film which tells the story of young run-away Elmer Elevator, who searches for a captive Dragon on Wild Island and finds much more than he could ever have anticipated.

Cartoon Saloon's Nora Twomey, Oscar-nominated director of The Breadwinner, whose new feature film My Father's Dragon has been announced as part of six all-new Netflix animated projects.
