Tommy Makinson has become only the fifth Englishman to receive rugby league's highest individual accolade, the Golden Boot award.

England wing Tommy Makinson has beaten out Kiwis captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to be crowned the 2018 Golden Boot victor. The 27-year-old the scored a hatrick against the Kiwis last weekend, helping England secure the three-game series with a match to spare.

The award, which is given to the player deemed to have made the most impact at global level over the past 12 months, had previously been won by four England internationals: Ellery Hanley, Garry Schofield, Andy Farrell and Kevin Sinfield. Makinson joins that list, despite only making his Test debut against New Zealand in Denver earlier this year.

Roosters and Australian centre Isabelle Kelly was named the inaugural Golden Boot victor from the women's game after a starring season.

Kelly backed up her 2017 World Cup final-winning performance with a two-try haul in the Jillaroos' narrow victory over the New Zealand Ferns in October.
