Jones checked into Texas' 2018 season opening win against Eastern Illinois with 11:40 remaining in the second half for his first minutes since being diagnosed with leukemia past year.

They got to their feet when Jones entered the game against Eastern Illinois University with 11:40 left on the clock, ESPN reported.

"It's great to see Andrew out on the court", Texas coach Shaka Smart said.

He was averaging more than 13 points per game last January when he complained of fatigue.

With that free throw Tuesday night, anything is definitely possible, and although Jones is scheduled for more treatments next month, the one point, one rebound, and one assist in his return might be all he needs for motivation to win the next battle and play even more.

Jones spent the spring and summer receiving treatment at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. After being released from the hospital in late February, Jones finished outpatient treatment in August. Now Jones is scheduled to resume leukemia treatments in December, he said at a press conference October 31.

The junior guard had battled leukemia and suffered a broken toe in practice last month, but overcame the odds against him after there were doubts he would even play this season. Most people don't have the mental strength or even just the drive to want to do it, but anything is possible. The Longhorns' next game will be a matchup against Arkansas on November 9. He was a McDonald's All-American as a recruit out of Irving, Texas. "Andrew wants to be treated like he's one of us".

"It felt good just having his presence", guard Matt Coleman III said.
