Among the bevy of new technology features, the Fossil Sport is based on the recently launched Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform that uses what Qualcomm describes as an ultra-low power system architecture.

Not only is it the lightest watch Fossil's ever made, but thanks to its aluminum and nylon case, Fossil says that the Fossil Sport is the "lightest smartwatch to date". Announced this September, the Wear 3100's biggest improvement over 2016's Wear 2100 is vastly improved battery life.

Fossil says the watch's 350mAh battery will last upwards of 24 hours on a single charge, and there's even a new battery saver mode that will supposedly eke out two extra days of battery life. It comes with standard 18mm or 22mm watch straps and the watch itself comes in 41mm and 43mm sizes. Additionally, the Fossil Sport also features a new battery-saving mode; enhanced ambient mode; and integrated heart rate, NFC and Global Positioning System capabilities.

There's also a good reason why the Fossil Sport is 55 bucks pricier than the Fitbit Versa. We don't have the exact weight or display resolution just yet, but we've asked Fossil for clarification on this. The fitness-oriented Wear OS device will run the latest version of Wear OS with a revamped fitness and navigation UI.

Online sales are underway today, followed by physical inventory headed to "select" Fossil retail stores around the world on November 12.
