Despite retiring from global football past year, Rooney will be given some playing time in the second half for his 120th and final cap.

"It's been two years since Wayne last played, England are on a new threshold and have just had a great World Cup but are going backwards with this".

Rooney is not expected to captain England or wear the No 10 shirt against the US. "He's our greatest goalscorer and so why not give him the send-off he deserves".

The FA and Gareth Southgate have chosen to honour Rooney - the country's leading goalscorer - with a cameo appearance at Wembley in the upcoming global friendly. He was captain when I got into the squad.

"Wayne Rooney finished with England, Gareth Southgate moved on and I don't agree with this at all".

"I think it's great. So I think everyone should get right behind it, and it'll be a good send-off".

'He was a great captain for us. "So if he plays, of course he'll be the captain".

"Having said that, we've given caps to people who haven't earned them in the past - I'm not going to name names - and you do wonder how on earth they got them".

"It's a great experience for the younger players in our team".

But Kane argues that Rooney's contribution to the national team - a record 53 goals - should be honoured in this way.

'There's still a long way to go, ' replied Kane, when asked about chasing the record.

"Still a long way to go, but hopefully I can stay fit and healthy, score a few more goals and then see in a few years how close I am", he said.
