DeSantis also criticized Gillum for signing a pledge for the civil rights group Dream Defenders.

The graphic appeared after a segment in which MSNBC's Joy Reid reported from Tallahassee praising Gillum's "energy" saying people were "excited" to vote for him. And since DeSantis fully embraced Trumpism, Hume insisted the the president could be responsible for the congressman's defeat.

DeSantis quit his job in Congress to focus on the gubernatorial race, a heated affair that largely reflected the broader national tensions over race and class in the Trump era. And nobody brings it like the big guy. "He came down here and fired up our voters, and it looks like we're poised for victory", U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Fort Walton Beach Republican, told The News Service of Florida on Tuesday night.

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna is all in for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum receiving the last-minute support needed to help him become Florida governor.

He advocated for stricter immigration laws, repealing former President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, and has said that he would have vetoed the legislation that provided stricter gun control measures after 17 people were killed during a shooting rampage at Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

"I'll be damned if I'm going to let anybody get in my way".

In Colorado, Democrat Jared Polis was set to become the first openly gay man to be elected governor of a US state, after NBC News projected him to win against Republican Walker Stapleton.

Many Democrats believed that the 39-year-old Gillum, the father of three young children, injected a degree of enthusiasm lacking for their party's candidates over the past several elections.

During the campaign, Gillum repeatedly launched accusations of racism against DeSantis, which DeSantis firmly denied.

DeSantis also pledged to address the state's toxic blue-green algae crisis and aggressively pursue Everglades restoration and repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike around Lake Okeechobee. Gillum said he paid cash for his share of a rental house shared with Corey and others in the 2016 Costa Rica vacation.

The trips and the ticket are part of an ethics investigation into Gillum, and Corey is at the heart of a federal probe into Tallahassee city government.

He gained name recognition during the primary with more than 100 appearances on Fox News, usually to defend the president, but didn't lay out a clear agenda on what he'd do if elected until after the primary. Adam Putman, DeSantis' opponent in the Republican primary, was arguably better-known and objectively better-funded. He beat Putnam by 20 percentage points. Gillum called himself "the most unapologetically progressive" candidate in the five-candidate Democratic field and staked out some positions beyond the reach of state government, such as his call for Trump's impeachment or his endorsement of Sanders' "Medicare for all" plan.

Polling has shown Gillum holding a consistent lead over DeSantis.

DeSantis began the general election on the defensive. But Democrat Christine Hallquist lost her bid to become the first openly transgender U.S. governor in Vermont, where Republican incumbent Phil Scott won re-election.

These races are interesting for different reasons.
