Despite being out of the playoffs, Ryan Blaney finds himself on the pole at Texas. After Harvick regained the lead, he held it until a late caution forced a two-lap overtime session. By time they got to the backstretch to start a green-white-checkered finish, Harvick had already cleared the field.

Kevin Harvick stayed ahead of Blaney and Logano when things went green for a clean sweep of the afternoon, gaining a heap of points while also securing his spot in the championship round at Miami-Homestead on November 18.

Martin Truex Jr. started at the back and ended up ninth and Kyle Busch finished 17th on a day when each of the three drivers was looking to secure a championship spot. They are comfortably above the cut line for points, but Chase Elliott or any of Harvick's three SHR teammates - Clint Bowyer, Aric Almirola and Kurt Busch - could advance with a win in Phoenix.

Harvick, who led 177 of 337 laps, said that he doesn't come here to count fingers and toes to attempt to deduce how he is going to make it, he wants to earn it.

Kyle Busch ran into similar difficulties, dealing with a speeding penalty early in the race, following with an unscheduled pit stop due to a loose wheel later on.

Harvick was on the inside again for the next restart, but Blaney was able to get by him for the lead. Harvick is joined by Joey Logano, who won the Martinsville race a week ago. "That was really the only shot we had to beat him, to be honest with you. When Homestead comes around if I am not in, he will know it".

Of those only Logano was a factor as he led 54 laps.

"The 42 (Larson) gave me a heck of a push, but I didn't quite get far enough ahead of the 4 into (Turn) 1", Blaney said. "He motored around me".

Bowyer was involved in first-lap rub with Denny Hamlin.

"We were a third place auto and that restart there where we finally were in position we fought all day from the back and started at the tail and worked diligently all day to get up to the front and finally got ourselves in position to at least have a shot and race with those guys", Almirola said of the final restart of the day. He also had a pass-through penalty during the race for driving through too many pit boxes, and was a lap down before getting that back one the first of the late cautions.

"That last restart I knew I needed to pick the top", Harvick said after the race.

UP NEXT: The last race in the third round of the playoffs, Sunday at Phoenix.
