After receiving a buyout in Phoenix last weekend, Tyson Chandler is officially headed home.

"Though the 36-year-old has seen his minutes and production decline after almost two decades in the National Basketball Association, he is still an explosive leaper who feasts on lobs".

Chandler will provide needed frontcourt depth for the Lakers, who have relied on JaVale McGee and undersized forwards to guard big men during their 4-6 start to the season.

In a video to Lakers fans, Chandler expressed his excitement to play for L.A.

"Having observed our roster for the first 10 games of this young season, one of the areas that Earvin and I discussed with Luke that we desired to upgrade is interior defense and rebounding", Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said. "We are excited that Tyson will bring championship-level experience that will solidify our veteran leadership and help positively shape our young core".

Chandler is joining his seventh team early in his 18th season in the league.

Chandler, 36, owns career averages of 8.6 points (.596 FG%), 9.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in 1,086 career games for chicago, new Orleans, Charlotte, Dallas, New York and Phoenix. Shooting over 55 percent from the field in each of his last 13 seasons, Chandler now ranks third all-time in field goal percentage (minimum 2,000 FGM).

Chandler, the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2011-2012 and victor of an NBA title with Dallas in 2011, is in his 18th NBA season.

A California native, Chandler attended Dominguez High School in Compton before going pro.
