"To uphold our commitment for safety and quality to our customers, Flushmate has announced, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, a voluntary recall of all Flushmate II 501-B pressure-assisted flushing systems", a spokesperson for Flushmate confirmed to Fox News.

Flushmate, a unit of IL bathroom equipment maker Sloan Valve Company, has received more than 1,400 reports in the U.S. and seven in Canada of the toilet systems bursting, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said Thursday.

The Flushmate II 501-B pressure-assisted flushing systems were sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, through plumbers and online from 1996 through 2015.

The company, Flushmate, has received more than 1,400 reports in the USA of their pressure-assisted toilet flushing systems bursting and causing property damage totaling about $710,000.

Units included in this recall were sold individually and installed in toilets manufactured by American Standard, Corona, Crane, Kohler and Mansfield.

The system is also used nationwide by toilet manufacturers, distributors and plumbing contractors.

"The units are rounded oval, black, two-piece vessels made of injection molded plastic". The model code is 10 characters long and is located on the same product label. The first six numbers are the date code, the month/day/year of manufacture, i.e., 072498 would be July 24, 1998. "The model code starts with M and ends with F". Flushmate is urging consumers to request their free replacement unit, which can be installed by a technician.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers who have the systems to immediately stop using them, shut off the water supply, and flush to release pressure on the system.

But the pressure can turn the flushing system into a low-level explosive device, which is why Flushmate recalled 1.4 million last week in the United States and Canada.
