We were looking forward to seeing what kind of corrupting influence that kind of power might have had on Harlem's hero.

"Unfortunately, Marvel's Luke Cage will not return for a third season", Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement per the Hollywood Reporter.

For the second straight week, Netflix has cut down its Marvel roster in considerable fashion. Luke Cage had a strong first two seasons, with a terrific supporting cast-most notably Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and her right hand, Hernan "Shades" Alzarez (Theo Rossi).

Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) might be bulletproof, but Netflix just proved the Marvel series is not cancel-proof. Especially in a world where Netflix proudly championed its stable of Marvel series as something that would continue to thrive in a post-Disney streaming service future.

Netflix is parting ways with another superhero: The streaming service has cancelled Marvel's Luke Cage after two seasons - and just a week after it axed Marvel's Iron Fist - our sister site Deadline reports.

Netflix was reportedly not thrilled by the scripts for Season 3 that had been delivered, leading to a pause on the writers room, and disagreements about potential changes to personnel on top of creative differences could not be resolved.

Colter debuted as Cage on Netflix's Jessica Jones before getting his own series.
