Mavericks fans didn't have to wait too long for rookie Luka Doncic to get on the stat sheet.

Doncic scored his first National Basketball Association points in the first quarter of Tuesday's opener against the Phoenix Suns, which the Mavericks lost 121-100. An assist from Wesley Matthews gave Doncic an easy bucket.

The rising 21-year-old star hadn't played in an National Basketball Association game since mid-March, and, after injuring his shooting hand this offseason, his status for opening night had been unclear.

After Dallas scored the first basket of the game, Phoenix immediately took the lead and never looked back, steamrolling its way to a double-digit advantage at the end of a 37-point first quarter. Ayton made his presence felt on the court as he scores 18 points, grabs 10 rebounds and dishes out six assists. He struggled shooting from the field, going 5-16 overall and 0-5 from three.
