It's going to murder the...okay, sorry, Universal is now thinking modestly at $50 million, but Variety reports the latest chapter in the Michael Myers slasher saga could bank an opening somewhere over the $70 million line.

That number will be spread between nearly 4,000 screens in the USA, as well as 21 worldwide territories on its opening weekend.

While this wouldn't touch the bonkers record-breaking $80 million that Venom pulled in, it would easily be the best opening for the 11-movie Halloween franchise, a distinction formerly held by the Rob Zombie's 2007 reboot, which banked $26 million. The film also stars Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Nick Castle reprising his role as The Shape with help fro, James Jude Courtney.

Drawing heavy visual influence from the original 1978 visage, the new incarnation of The Shape was then intentionally weathered to reflect the 40-year passage of time since the events of the first film. Green co-wrote the script with Jeff Fradley and Danny McBride, with Carpenter himself providing a brand new score.

Halloween is also produced by Malek Akkad, whose Trancas International Films has produced the Halloween series since its inception, and Bill Block (Elysium, District 9).

Master of horror John Carpenter executive produces and serves as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema's current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity).
