Chelsea stumble as West Ham battle to 0-0 draw

By drawing 0-0 at West Ham, Chelsea dropped its first points in the Premier League and failed to score under Maurizio Sarri for the first time this season.

Any weakness in either team looks most likely to be found in defence: Eden Hazard versus Pablo Zabaleta should be fun, while at the other end Arnautovic is good enough to cause David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger a problem or two.

Sarri made an impressive start to life as Chelsea manager - despite being appointed on July 14 - winning his first five games of the season, but he does not think his side are yet able to compete with champions Manchester City or early league leaders Liverpool.

"I see Declan working every day and I know the way he does it", Pellegrini told reporters after the game. "The draw is not a bad point but if we took those chances we could have got three". "I hope to qualify before the last match of the group, but maybe six or seven players need to rest in the future".

"I don't know why they lost their first four matches in the Premier League".

Who will come out on top in the battle of the managers Manuel Pellegrini or Maurizio Sarri?

To be fair, the Hammers should have won the match, given Andriy Yarmolenko's huge missed opportunity late in the second half.

"We need to move the ball quicker, " Sarri said, "and we need more movement without the ball".

Portuguese worldwide Joao Moutinho is one of Mendes's many clients to arrive at Molineux and curled his first goal for the club into the top corner to earn a deserved point.

Asked if his star player had done so against West Ham, the Italian said: "Not in the first half".

"It was very hard to play inside", Sarri said after the game. I think that's right if you want to be competitive in Europe.

But if the German is not ready to face Liverpool on Saturday, Langley says Cahill must be the man to step in at Anfield; he has fewer concerns about the EFL Cup game between the two teams on Wednesday.

Next up for Chelsea FC is their trip to Liverpool FC for their third-round League Cup tie against the Reds.
