Joshua Kimmich centred for the Colombian to leather home for his second Bundesliga goal of the season.

It was a sublime effort which left Schalke with too much to do, as they ended up suffering a fourth consecutive league defeat after finishing second last season, while Bayern are the only team with a 100-per cent record.

James Rodriguez and Robert Lewandowski were on target either side of half-time to make it four wins from four matches for the reigning champions, who were temporarily replaced as league leaders by Hertha Berlin.

Rodriguez then effectively settled the matter on 63 minutes after a foul in the area by Alessandro Schoepf.

The chance was squandered in the end, and Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski doubled the visitors' advantage from the penalty spot later on to put the game away.

While there was no immediate update on McKennie's injury post-match, this latest ailment could put McKennie in doubt not only for Schalke's two Bundesliga matches next week, but also the USA men's national team's friendlies against Peru and Rodriguez's Colombia next month.

Schalke had little to offer and only a superb save from Faehrmann kept out a long-range free-kick from David Alaba, which curled wickedly 12 minutes from time.
