The singer and entrepreneur will promote education, tourism and investment in her home country.

Rihanna has fabulously dipped her toes into many industries, including music, beauty and lingerie.

With eight Grammys, two Brit awards and nine United Kingdom number ones, a fashion business and a charitable foundation, Rihanna now has another facet to her glittering CV - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

This isn't the first time that Rihanna's played a role in shaping the future of Barbados either; last December, on Barbados Independence Day, Westbury New Road, where she grew up, was officially re-named Rihanna Drive.

While the singer will not be formally accredited to another country, Mottley said that Rihanna - whose more colorful songs include "Bitch Better Have My Money" - would be in charge of bringing investment as well as encouraging education and tourism.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley said the government was honoured to be able to confer the title on the outstanding Barbadian singer who has contributed significantly to raising the island's profile across the world. "I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team to re-imagine Barbados", she stated.

"Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I'm ready and excited to take on the responsibility", Rihanna said.

"She has also demonstrated, beyond her success as a pop icon, significant creative acumen and shrewdness in business". She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home.

She has also carried out global charitable work through her Clara Lionel Foundation, which is named after her grandparents.

But her new title comes with expanded responsibilities.
