Evans and wife Natasha Shishmanian welcomed a boy and a girl on Wednesday evening.

The proud dad gushed about the newborns during his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show on Friday, where he was joined by his wife phoning in on air.

The Press Association reports that Evans told listeners they did not have much sleep as they had gone out for a "little bit of wetting the babies' heads" following their births on Wednesday. "Boo and Walt", Evans revealed, adding the names were not short for anything. "We are beyond blessed".

"Good morning from myself and the team and from Team Evans back at home". Everyone up already... We've been up all night.

Natasha and Chris announced the new arrivals in a statement read out by radio presenter Sara Cox on Thursday morning, which read: "Ping and Pong arrived safe and well last night".

"So we went out last night, had a house full, I fell asleep on the sofa, woke up on the sofa". We're expecting more people over tonight, I might not even get the sofa actually but that's Ok. Babies [are] splendid, sparkling. "Otherwise I'd just talk about babies all day today".

"I'm sorry, I can't help it". I can only apologise. We did go out and celebrate last night and we took the newborns with us - not the unborns - the newborns came out with us because it's so cool when your new babies are less than a day old.

Sounding delighted to now be a father-of-five, Chris opened up about Walt and Boo's characters, saying: "I didn't really get the twin thing but already it's showing itself".

"Ping popped her head out at 22.10, Pong popped his head out 12 minutes later at 22 minutes past 10".

"Infinite thanks to the wonderful team at Frimley Park Hospital, fantastic people, awesome professionals, helping dreams come true".
