Microsoft’s latest Dynamics 365 applications bring AI and Hololens to workplaces

The Dynamics 365 business applications come integrated with Office 365 and natively built on Microsoft Azure.

Dynamics 365 AI for Sales is created to help salespeople and managers prioritize their time to focus on high priority deals, to provide answers to oft-asked questions regarding the performance of sales teams, to offer detailed analysis of the sales pipeline, and provide insights or next logical actions to help sales teams.

The second offering is Dynamics 365 Layout, which lets businesses use HoloLens to map physical spaces and move virtual versions of equipment around to plan before actual moves take place.

First up, Microsoft is teasing the "coming availability" of a new suite of AI applications for Dynamics 365 that will focus on streamlining the data organizations have access to and serving it up at the right times for everyone from marketers to customer service representatives. The boost to Dynamics may be felt first by its existing customer base - it seems far-fetched that large companies would quickly change their calculus about a CRM tool based on such announcements alone.

These new AI applications will be part of Dynamics 2018's October update that will be available to businesses on October 1.

Previously Chevron was required to fly in an inspector from Houston to a facility in Singapore once a month to inspect equipment. "Then I think once you do that, then it naturally leads to the next use case and the next use case after that".

Dynamics 365 AI for Market Insights turns AI to marketing. They captured data, but they didn't provide any value back to the end user. What that end user really needs is a system of empowerment, not oppression ...

The Common Data Service is a key enabler for applying AI to that data, because it unlocks "your ability to reason over it", she explains.

To some extent, this is just Microsoft playing AI catch-up to Salesforce, which was showing off similar capabilities a year or more ago.

One card that Microsoft might have played but has chosen not to on this occasion was to add AI into its financials offering, which would have emphasized its big differentiation against Salesforce, as offering a unified suite across CRM and ERP.

Microsoft Corp announced on Tuesday new AI and mixed-reality applications for its Dynamics 365 online business software, putting to use its augmented-reality goggles HoloLens for businesses. That bodes well for future iterations of the product set. Salesforce partners with IBM Watson to be able to deliver on this.
