LeBron is set to star in the "Space Jam" sequel, meaning he'll take the reigns from Michael Jordan as the National Basketball Association lead sharing the court with animated Looney Tunes characters.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, work on the film is expected to begin in 2019.

This will mark James' first on-screen role since 2015's Trainwreck, which saw the basketball star hold his own surprisingly well with scene partners like Amy Schumer and Bill Hader.

The new movie made major waves today with the addition of Coogler as producer, which comes after months of rumors about Space Jam 2 that were reignited after James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The first official photo from Space Jam 2 has been released, and it reveals some new information about the long-awaited film. It was very stupid, but it also gained a cult following that endures to this day.

It was announced via James' movie shingle, Spring Hill Entertainment. The plot behind Space Jam 2 isn't known at this time, but one can assume it will involve James teaming with Bugs Bunny and company for more basketball hijinks. I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams. "So for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it's wonderful".

The sequel will be directed by Terence Nance, who most recently created and directed HBO's "Random Acts of Flyness". Anyone excited for Coogler's next project after the record-breaking Black Panther, here's your chance.

Earlier in the year, SpringHill caused some speculation when it posted an image of the original Space Jam movie's website, which to this day remains active on the web. That said, you can probably expect other basketball stars to pop-up in the sequel at some point, just as several did in the original.
