Kulsoom was diagnosed with lymphoma a year ago, barely a month after Nawaz was removed from office by the Supreme Court, which ordered him to face trial in an anti-corruption court.

Nawaz Sharif's wife and former first lady, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, breathed her last on Tuesday after fighting a long battle with cancer.

"Hasan and Hussain will not return as they will attend the funeral prayer of their mother in London on Thursday", a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader said.

The funeral prayers in London were attended by her sons Hassan and Hussain, brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif, former ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar among others.

Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, were initially granted a 12-hour parole to attend the funeral.

Shehbaz Sharif along with Begum Kulsoom's daughter Asma, grandson Zayd Hussain Sharif and 11 other family members accompanied the body to Lahore. Sharif and two of his family members are now serving prison terms in a corruption case.

Maryam Nawaz also saw her grandmother and was seen weeping at most of the occasions as the relatives came to condole the death of her mother.

People continued to arrive at Jati Umra to express grief and offer sympathy to the Sharif family.

Security has also been tightened around their residence and traffic wardens have been deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday left for London to bring back the body of his sister-in-law.

Many workers were seen sobbing while everyone praised the noble personality, suave and humanitarian nature of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

When Shehbaz reached Adiala Jail to meet Nawaz after the demise of Begum Kulsoom, the latter initially refused to come out of jail on parole in protest against his conviction and detention.

According to the Punjab province Home Department spokesperson, it has been decided that Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar's parole be extended by three days.
