"We don't play Champions League or what?" said the German, whose side now top the table with a 100 per cent record after four matches and are widely seen as the main challengers to defending champions Manchester City.

Gary Neville believes that Liverpool FC should sacrifice the Champions League and focus on trying to win the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool now sit joint top of the table with four wins from four and, galvanised by the summer purchase of Brazil No 1 Alisson Becker, have conceded just one goal so far in that impressive run.

"But I think everyone can make a mistake". How do you prepare for a game and not focus on it? Bring your kids into the Champions League, that would be amusing.

"(We are) disappointed because we are going to miss him for maybe this game and against Inter Milan in Champions League", said Pochettino.

Liverpool begin a run of seven matches in 23 days whey face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Saturday, with Jürgen Klopp ready to use the depth of his squad in the weeks ahead. We don't play Champions League or what? We have a good team together so that takes time.

I said before the start of the season that they'll be the nearest challengers to Manchester City and nothing I've seen so far has made me change my mind.

The England captain has scored twice for club and country since the start of the season and has yet to hit the heights seen in recent years.

Klopp hit back at the former Red Devils skipper by claiming that he did not understand how to concentrate exclusively on one competition when at a club like Liverpool, who are expected to compete on all fronts.

Pochettino said: "Look, when in England the transfer window closed and in Europe closed I think we move on".

"Gary should tell me how that works".

Jurgen Klopp has defended his decision to keep Fabinho out of his Liverpool team but admits it is "not nice" to tell him he will not be playing.

"After that we had pretty good results and I don't think we conceded a lot of goals".

Lloris, who was sentenced for a drink-driving charge earlier this week, suffered the problem in August's win over Manchester United.
