Remedy will be collaborating on the project with Contradiction Films, which happens to be the production company behind video game-to-movie adaptations Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Dead Rising: Watchtower.

Alan Wake was released on the Xbox 360 and Windows PC in 2010.

As explained by Contradiction's Thomas Harlan, the TV adaptation of Alan Wake isn't going to have its story follow alongside the game's version of the plot beat by beat, and Lake declined to comment whether or not the show's story will will tie into the overall continuity of the game's universe. 'That was Sam's vision.

Alan Wake, a game that was structured like and inspired by TV shows, is set to become a TV show itself. It was influenced by "The Twilight Zone, ' 'Secret Window, ' Hitchcock, 'Northern Exposure, ' a lot of US television".

Lake and Harlan both talked about how important the side characters of the game are, and that while the original game will work as the starting point of the story in the series, they will be "expanding the lore of this insane and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did." .

Specifics regarding the show or tie-ins to the game were not provided, but Harlan said it was important to bring Wake "to where he was" in the games. "We feel this is a big universe to develop and explore in many ways". Sam is a huge part of this.

"Not only that, but through the years we've worked on multiple game concepts and stories for Alan Wake's world that have never seen the light of day", Lake said. "We'll be expanding the lore of this insane and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did". The closest Remedy ever got to a sequel was Alan Wake's American Nightmare, a downloadable follow-up to the base game. "We can't start the show off where he is fully functioning, running through the forest, taking down lumberjacks".

No word yet when or where you'll be able to catch the Alan Wake series, as the show is still being shopped around.
