If you're interested in the best possible views of the show should set up shop somewhere dark-with no light pollution or large buildings-where much of the sky is visible.

We've rounded up everything you need to know about the Perseids meteor shower, including how and where to watch them.

This year's shower will be putting on its best display for those in Europe, but as it's peak last so long, from the 11th to 12th, it should also put on a spectacular display for the United States and elsewhere in the northern hemisphere.

So when is the Perseid meteor shower?

The Perseids meteor shower is basically a mass of shooting stars, which light up the skies for avid stargazers below each year.

However, observers in the mid-Southern Hemisphere will still have a chance of seeing some shooting stars if they look toward the northeast horizon. No special equipment is needed, just patience. The longer you're outside in the dark, the better your vision of the meteors will be.

When is the best time to see them? The Slooh observatory will host a livestream of the shower starting at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.

"Comets are spectacular and lovely and take months to go across the sky but every time they go near the sun they are melted down a little bit".

The annual show is the result of Earth's proximity to the "gritty" debris of Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, Boyle said in a release.

People can view the meteors streaming across the sky anywhere away from downtown Lawrence.

"The dunes at Mleiha, especially around Al Faya Mountain and The Fossil Rock, offer a secluded experience for visitors and sky watchers who look forward to create great memories out of this opportunity".

In 2018, the peak night of this shower will be totally free of moonlight.

When is the next meteor shower?

When the Earth's orbit crosses a trail of these particles they can collide with our atmosphere and burn up as shooting stars.

The meteor shower will grow more spectacular through the weekend with top performance between midnight and dawn Sunday and Monday.
