According to a report from Yahoo Sports, Leonard released a statement thanking the Spurs franchise and San Antonians, making it his first official statement since he was traded to the Toronto Raptors. Leonard popped up in Toronto to take a picture with Masai Ujiri after the trade was done and talk to the Raptors brass about playing for the team, but still avoided offering any public statements as Ujiri held the trade press conference alone.

More than two weeks after being traded to the Raptors, Leonard broke his silence and submitted a letter to the San Antonio Express-News thanking the Spurs organization.

He was traded to the Raptors in July, along with Danny Green, in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick. Leonard, an unrestricted free agent next summer, reportedly wasn't pleased with the move and many expect him to bolt for the Los Angeles Lakers, joining LeBron James.

Outside of that, this is a pretty boilerplate "thank you" letter from the reserved forward as he starts his new chapter in Toronto.

THANK YOU to every one of my teammates I've played with over my seven years in the National Basketball Association.

"Through all the ups and downs - I'm glad there were many more ups!" The two sides have had tumultuous relationship in the past year, as Leonard played just nine games last season due to a quad injury.

"While I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career, I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio!". "I'll never forget what we have shared and accomplished together", Leonard wrote.
