Jurgen Klopp has urged his Liverpool side to "make the last step" after a productive pre-season that saw the Reds win seven, draw one and lose one.

While others have been frustrated, Liverpool have had a great transfer window, with Klopp addressing weak spots in his squad and spending big to try and plug the gaps.

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is backing new signing Alisson to showcase his skills not only as a goalkeeper but as a playmaker at Anfield.

Like City, Liverpool's strength is in the final third and the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, will strike fear into Premier League defences again.

That is what you need to challenge for the top honours now, as the days of winning the title using 14 or 15 players are gone for teams that also have the burdens of playing Champions League football.

Liverpool, however, beat City three times last season - twice in the two-legged Champions League quarter-final, and their moves in the transfer market should make them serious contenders.

But in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips, the manager is content with his options, heaping praise on his young addition.

Daniel Sturridge is back to his best - that's the proclamation of some Liverpool fans on social media after the former England striker netted six goals and contributed two assists across pre-season.

The Champions League finalists will kick off as second favourites behind Manchester City, and they're seen as the Citizens' main rivals for a reason, as they dished out one of only two City defeats of the Premier League season a year ago.

Jurgen Klopp's side have only been beaten once in their nine friendlies this summer and kick off their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham United on Sunday.
