It looks like Robin Hood has finally gone digital.

Fleetwood returned the money and it went to the British Open finisher. That would explain why the accounts department had his bank account information.

If you follow golf at all you might recognize the name; British pro Tommy Fleetwood is now ranked 11th in the world and is a trendy pick for this weekend's PGA Championship at Bellerive in St. Louis. He was born in 1959, and reportedly has tried to qualify for senior events in Europe.

"Tommy is club pro at the Streamsong Resort in Central Florida and I was with him when he received a notification on his phone and he shouted, 'Holy smoke, I've just had $154,480 paid into my account, '" Greg Thorner said.

For once, a pro golfer got to call a penalty on tournament officials, rather than the other way around.

The European Tour have apologised after Tommy Fleetwood's Open winnings of nearly £120,000 were sent to the wrong Tommy Fleetwood.

The American Tommy Fleetwood shared a screenshot showing he had been credited $154,480 by the European Tour.

Here's how Thorner thinks the mistake took place: his friend Tommy Fleetwood played briefly on the European PGA Tour.

Speaking at Bellerive ahead of the US PGA Championship, Tommy Fleetwood said: "I honestly didn't know anything about it".

"At least, he can always say he won $150,000 at the Open".

"I wouldn't even know if I'd been paid or not because I don't really look", Fleetwood said. It looks pretty genuine and they are looking into it and I'm sure they'll feel pretty bad about it.

'It's a amusing story.

The more famous Tommy Fleetwood told The Telegraph he hadn't even noticed, which probably shouldn't be a surprise since he's earned more than $4 million in 2018 alone.
