Chelsea revealed yesterday that they had reached an agreement with the European champions for the Belgium global, who was entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The report claims that the Blues are interested in bringing the 25-year-old World Cup victor to Stamford Bridge as Maurizio Sarri is willing to give him a central role at Chelsea.

As part of Courtois' switch to Real Madrid, an agreement was reached for promising midfielder Mateo Kovacic to move to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes that his former club's £71 million signing of Athletic Bilbao shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga is 'one hell of a statement'.

Madrid confirmed Courtois will undergo his medical on Thursday before being unveiled to the club's fans at the Bernabeu.

Keylor Navas has vowed to fight Courtois all the way and defend his place as Real's No.1 goalkeeper.

"It's a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life", said the goalkeeper.

'He said the Premier League will be tough in the beginning but he said it is a nice League, the stadiums are always full and I will enjoy it.

One Spanish sports daily, AS, reported that the midfielder who led Croatia to the World Cup final was subject to a big bid from Inter Milan, while a competing newspaper, Marca said the 32-year old was about to accept a pay rise from Real and sign a contract extension.

Blues director Marina Granovskaia added: "We are very happy to welcome Mateo to the Chelsea family".

"It is an accumulation of things really and I am delighted that the club has signed me".

But, in weird circumstances, Chelsea did not include a clause in the Kovacic contract which would enable them to make the deal a permanent one if the Croatian worldwide impresses in the Premier League.

Luka Modric's heart is set on a move to Inter but this will not stop Real Madrid president Florentino Perez from making a last ditch attempt to change the 32-year-old Croatian's mind.
