Set in 2093, the series follows a group of eight explorers on the spaceship The Nightflyer, who are trying to save Earth from destruction.

In space, no one can hear you scream... and that's good because, based on this Nightflyers trailer, we're gonna be screaming a lot. "There is something wrong with this ship" is a sentiment that echoes ominously over images of characters succumbing, in varying degrees, to the ship's manipulations.

Nightflyers is a novella by George RR Martin, writer of the Song of Ice and Fire series which was adapted into HBO's Game of Thrones.

Martin, who wrote the stories the series is based on, describes it as "a haunted-house story on a starship" and "Psycho in space". Nightflyers is a co-production between Syfy and Netflix. Though Martin wasn't present at Comic-Con to discuss the show, he did appear via a prerecorded video to introduce a first look.

Stars Eoin Macken, Gretchen Mol, David Ajala, Jodie Turner-Smith and Angus Sampson took the stage at the San Diego Convention center alongside executive producer and showrunner Jeff Buhler and executive producers Gene Klein and David Bartis to answer questions about the upcoming voyage. And though it uses the framework of Martin's written work, it has a different setting.

Syfy dropped a never-before-seen trailer during the "Nightflyers" panel at Comic-Con on Thursday.
