Praise for Putin, pity for Trump

President Donald Trump continues to deny Russian interference in the USA election, doing so again in a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday.

Numerous president's critics have decried his trust in Vladimir Putin's word over the assessment from US intelligence agencies that Russian Federation had meddled in the 2016 election.

Trump was widely panned by people on both sides for treating Putin gently and questioning American intelligence agencies' assessments that the Russians tried to meddle in the 2016 elections.

U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Sewickley, said in a statement that the House Committee on Intelligence confirmed that Russian Federation meddled in the election.

Trump, on the other hand, praised Putin, saying, "I thought that President Putin was very strong".

"You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader certainly that I've ever seen, an extraordinary press conference", Cooper said.

"President Trump hasn't been that masterful handling global issues either, but in his way, he's trying to do something about the number of things, whether he's successful, I hope he's successful and I think all Americans will support him if he's successful", Tchantouridze said. He says that while it is important to improve relations with Russian Federation on several issues, including Syria, the President must realize that Russian Federation did try to interfere in the elections, and that steps should be taken to block those attempts in the future.

"To me, it's the only question that interests the American press", reporter Yegor Kolyvanov said on NTV, a Kremlin-controlled national TV channel.

He added, "A productive dialogue is not only good for the United States and good for Russian Federation, but it is good for the world".

"This was the day an American president stood on foreign soil next to a murderous lying thug and refused to back his own country", Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May 2016, tweeted.

"We are starting to achieve some understanding which gives us sufficient ground to say that some things - a lot of things changed to the better during today's meeting", he said.

We don't know if Trump's performance at Monday's news conference was a weak attempt at diplomacy or perhaps vanity about his 2016 election victory.

Tell us what you think! The fact that Trump did nearly the opposite brought sharp denunciations from the handful of Republicans who in the past have been willing to criticize the president - most of whom are not seeking re-election.

U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, said Trump's behavior was "outrageous".

When asked why so many of his critics wind up dead, Putin is blaming troubles with crime in Russian Federation and noting the USA has struggled, too, citing John F. Kennedy's assassination and clashes between police and civilians.

The prime minister said he was working to protect Australia's democracy from foreign interference with new laws.
