Stay tuned for details about Zombieland 2. Rumors about a follow-up film have circulated for years, thanks to the film's fervent fan base, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming that the project is officially moving forward with original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, and Abigail Breslin.

There have been stops and starts throughout the process but this time Sony says it's a done deal. Production is set to begin in January 2019 with a release date scheduled for October 2019, just in time for the 10th anniversary of the original film. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the scribes behind Zombieland and the Deadpool movies, will also write the sequel.

The sequel will take the quartet out of the amusement park and toward the White House and the heartland, all while battling "evolved" zombies.

Zombieland 2 will reportedly focus again on the "comic mayhem", which will take the quartet from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new types of zombies that have evolved in the almost 10 years since the first film.

Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch released a statement about the sequel and noted that nobody wanted the project to happen more than "Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin". "These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters". Of course, Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the original and is also bringing us Venom this fall, will be back in the director's chair as well, working off a script from the aforementioned Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. "But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family". "We don't know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2". "We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly incredible". Once Batman v Superman was finally released in theaters, the divisive film had its fair share of supporters and detractors, though a lot of them could agree that there was at least one aspect of the film that worked: Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman.
