At the World Cup, Shaqiri scored a 90th-minute victor to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Serbia in the group stage last month.

Liverpool were the frontrunners for his signature for some time having been interested in signing Shaqiri a few years back.

Regardless, everything seems to be in place for Shaqiri to become Klopp's third signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho.

The newspaper says the 26-year-old was keen to work under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield so has snubbed all interest to join Liverpool and will undergo his medical today ahead of his bargain move.

Xherdan Shaqiri is on the verge of completing a £13 million move to Liverpool.

'I'm very happy to be here, ' Shaqiri said.

"That was a big point for me to come here, because of the coach. So I'm really glad and happy to be here", Shaqiri told the club's official website.

The former Basel star has played for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan so he has plenty of experience of top level football and he'll provide competition for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in attack this coming season.

'When someone like him becomes available in this way you have to react if you are smart - and we have, ' Klopp commented. To play for us these are mandatory requirements. We will want him to express himself but also learn and improve the areas of his game where he can still make progression. I want to improve myself too, I want to be with the best and I want to win titles. He gives us greater flexibility in how we can use our current players also.
