This will be followed by a Guard of Honour giving the Royal Salute, with the US national anthem being played, and Trump and the Queen inspecting the Guard of Honour.

Since the Queen came to the throne in 1952, 13 U.S. presidents have been elected, and Elizabeth has met all of them except Lyndon B. Johnson and, so far, Donald Trump.

Her Majesty is set to have tea with the president and his wife Melania at Windsor Castle when the pair head to the United Kingdom later this week, a newly-released statement confirmed.

Trump and Melania will then join the Queen inside the castle for tea, although the palace did not comment on whether they would be joined by the Queen's husband Prince Philip, who has been absent from a number of events recently.

The first couple departed the White House for a week in Europe on Tuesday morning and will arrive in London on Thursday.

Queen Elizabeth II has met 11 of the 12 US Presidents elected during her reign - including the first Irish American President, John F. Kennedy, on June 5, 1961.
