The Gers take on Macedonian outfit FK Shkupi in the first round of the Europa League qualifiers at Ibrox tonight (7.45pm).

"Rangers can give these boy a stage and platform to perform on".

But they are still huge favourites this evening in what will be former Liverpool and England captain Gerrard's first official game as a senior manager.

New signings Lassana Coulibaly and Umar Sadiq are unavailable, but Ben Alnwick, Declan John, Glenn Middleton, Greg Docherty, Andy Halliday, Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Jack on the bench.

And Gerrard has revealed that there are still plans for further strengthening.

"The fans are with us, and you could see that the other night and we have sold-out the first European game, so they want to come and they are ready to come with us", Gerrard told Rangers TV. "We'll be there when we're there".

"We feel like we've already improved things a lot but there's still some pieces missing".

The Scottish giants are thought to have made a £3million bid for Millwall centre-back Jake Cooper. "I won't be adding to any speculation".

Space in the squad is being freed up by the departure of veteran Bruno Alves, who is joining Parma on a free transfer.

He also scored two goals for the Ibrox club.
