Epic Games has also added desert outposts and a desert biome, viking ships and ancient statues onto the map, which may have fallen through the crack in the sky.

V5 introduces a new vehicle option called the ATK, or All Terrain Kart.

The new season has also been preceded by Fortnite items, including Llamas and the Durr Burger sign appearing in real life locations around the world. A few unnamed places of interest have also been sprinkled across the island. Hop in an ATK with your squad and uncover all new mysteries and locations. It looks like a sort of off-road golf kart, which is no less than you'd expect from Fortnite. We won't know the full extent of cosmetic changes to the map and exactly what the new season's theme is until the servers come back online.

Of course, Epic is also hoping to take more of your money with a new Season 5 Battle Pass available as an in-app purchase, offering 100 levels and more than 100 new rewards.

"Fortnite" season 5 also adds a new vehicle that will allow players to travel through the battle royale map faster.

Starting in Season 5, progressive challenges will no longer be restricted to a single season.

To collect the Lightning Bolts and have them count towards your challenge progress you can't just glide through them - you have to land and then hold a button or key to search them properly.

As always with a Fortnite patch there are a bunch of fixes and performance improvements, with some changes too in weapon balancing. Rather than their bullet spread being randomised, they'll now fire in a consistent manner, meaning you'll be able to learn where within their arc will actually get hit.
