Americans are quitting their jobs at a record rate, with the proportion of workers leaving their jobs reaching the highest level in over 18 years, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.

People are apparently feeling so good about the current economy that Americans quit their jobs in May at the fastest rate since 2001.

The government report found that the type of employees who are choosing to leave for greener pastures worked in healthcare, social assistance, finance, insurance, transportation, utilities, and warehousing industries. You can be choosy about your job when you know that the odds of getting a better one are in your favor.

The number of available jobs fell to 6.638 million on the last business day of May, down from 6,638 in May, according to the Labor Department's latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). Switching jobs is one way to reliably boost your pay.

So if you feel unsatisfied with your work today, know that there could be a better job out there for you to find tomorrow.
