Speaking after the Tranmere game, the Liverpool manager tried to downplay Karius' mishap against the League Two side.

He defended his goalkeeper saying that his poor performance was influenced by the concussion in the 3-1 loss, and he played him in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

"We can not change that".

"You [the media] can all stop it immediately - promise?" "It is obvious, we don't have to hide it".

"Loris concedes that goal, but we can not start a story always after each mistake". Yes he could have made that save even though the shot was not easy to deal with. He doesn't like it but they do happen, so let's carry on and make the best of all these situations to learn from it. You never ask again, that would be one little step.

Liverpool were at least able to reflect on a second win in the space of four days, as first-half goals from Rafa Camacho, Sheyi Ojo and Adam Lallana saw them past a spirited Tranmere.

Liverpool FC are still thought to be on the lookout for a number of new players this summer as they look to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League title next season.

"No-one likes that goal but if we talk about the second goal I think it was Millie's [James Milner's] fault together with [Pedro] Chirvella".

"First half was obviously good".

One Twitter user said: "What we've just seen from Karius is an indication that he hasn't bounced back from his major errors", while others suggested that the club need to move in the transfer window for another goalkeeper. "That's the situation - 3-2, nobody injured and everybody had 45 minutes [of] intensity That's what we wanted".
