Jones, who made just nine worldwide appearances for Wales, believes Sterling relies to heavily on his speed and slammed his finishing so far this World Cup.

Sterling and co face Croatia on Wednesday evening, with the victor facing either France or Belgium in the final on Sunday in what is now an all-European affair, the third time this will have happened in four tournaments.

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has again fell under intense criticism during England's 2-0 victory over Sweden in the World Cup quarterfinal after he missed a chance after running onto Jordan Henderson's floated pass over the Sweden defense during the first half.

Speaking to reporters in Moscow a day after his side's dramatic quarter-final win over hosts Russia, Dalic was asked about England's strengths and weaknesses. "He's had a fantastic tournament so far and hopefully he can continue to have one in the next week".

'People think he's weak but I've seen countless players ride his back because he's that strong.

"They play very direct football, dangerous, fast, and they are really good at setpieces, and dangerous at corner kicks".

'Raz, he's a nightmare for us defenders, ' said the defender.

Eric Dier believes there should be no debate about the displays Sterling has put in. "We don't fear England or anybody else".

On a more positive note, he looked forward to playing another attack-minded team in England after his side's relative struggles against the more defensive styles of Iceland, Denmark and Russian Federation.

"Our last three games were different because we played teams with a defensive approach", he said. He would have knocked that one in over the top, he's got a great touch.
