Manchester City sell goalkeeper Angus Gunn to Southampton

Southampton are closing in on deals for Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn and Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard, Press Association Sport understands.

The news, also reported by Simon Stone of the BBC, follows up on a report from June that stated the clubs were discussing a £15million deal for the 22-year-old. Born in Norwich, England, Gunn has enjoyed a close relationship with his local club throughout his youth career, spending the early part with the youth set-up at Norwich before attracting the interest of Manchester City.

The England Under-21 worldwide spent last season on loan at Norwich City, a club where his father Bryan Gunn also played.

Gunn, who joined the Blues in 2011, never played first-team football for City, despite being on the bench several times.

Alex McCarthy has signed a new four year contract this summer with Saints, having established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Fraser Forster and his seven clean sheets in 18 Premier League appearances helped Southampton remain in the top division.

Gunn has represented England at various levels from Under-16s to Under-21s, winning 11 caps with the latter.
