"Jeremy believes that if England were to win the World Cup, there should be a public holiday in celebration".

Tomorrow's last-four clash with Croatia in Moscow is all that now stands between Gareth Southgate's men and the chance to follow in the footsteps of the heroes of 1966 in Sunday's final.

Belgium has never been to the final of a World Cup, but that's exactly what they look poised to do as the highest-ranked team (No. 3 in the latest Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings) left in the tournament.

"We've talked, touched briefly, certainly, on the team which won [in 1966]", he said. "If we've got players who are 75% the guys who haven't been in the team deserve to come in and be at 100%".

The likes of Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford were pictured taking a refreshing plunge along with captain Harry Kane - before a spot of yoga to stretch out those aching limbs and refresh minds.

"It's felt like a good holiday we've been on - and we're enjoying every moment of it", said the Manchester United left wing-back.

It has proved a shrewd move, with Kane not only providing a tournament-leading six goals so far but also impressing Hurst with his leadership qualities.

It might even end with an England-France final.

"They have got some fantastic players".

He added: "Hopefully we had a long month together, which we have done".

England have managed to improve as a national squad under Gareth Southgate, who is leading the team in their first worldwide tournament since the 2016 European Championship, where former manager Roy Hodgson's contract ended following a 2-1 loss to Iceland. "I think we all know that".

"I would say I would be disappointed if we didn't beat them".

And if they do go all the way, I'm sure you'll all agree that it's only right that as a nation we have a day of celebration (and possibly a day to recover from the hangover) on the Monday.
