Faster Updates: OnePlus Finally Embraces Project Treble In The Latest OxygenOS

Today, OnePlus released a new Open Beta for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

Last year's flagships from OnePlus, the company known for cramming top-tier features into surprisingly affordable packages, has announced both the OnePlus 5 and 5T will be receiving support for Google's Project Treble. The OxygenOS Open Beta program, in fact, allows users of these OnePlus smartphones to get updates with the latest features and security patches before the release of the stable version.

"After several months of evaluation and hard work, we finally found a solution to make this possible, and we are very excited to share this good news with you", says the OnePlus forum post for Project Treble.

Project Treble support is now only in this newest OxygenOS beta.

Support for Project Treble on OnePlus 5 and 5T suggests that both handsets will receive Android updates faster than their predecessors.

Changelog on the Open Beta 13 and 11 for the OnePlus 5T and the OnePlus 5, respectively. The user interface of OnePlus' take on Android gets a few extra improvements and tweaks too. Now, Google has separated the software and hardware part of the update, making things more streamline and much faster. HDR settings are now kept from the last time app was used while editing experience in the Gallery has been optimized together with the editing experience in Gallery. The version also supports accent colour customisation (using a colour wheel). OnePlus also optimised logic for the contact page in the OnePlus Dialer app, and the OnePlus Weather app has been completely redesigned. OnePlus also promised that it is working on an improved panorama experience and it is planning to launch the fix by the end of the year. There is a "New Installs" tag that shows only the latest installed apps. Additionally, the new versions bring some other features and optimisations including new accent colours and a refreshed user interface. The company has also introduced some changes to the default Launcher app, which now includes improved search tags, "New Installations" category tags in the apps section, and an app list improvement.
