Stranger Things Video Game Coming From Telltale Games

The company has confirmed to TechRadar that MineCraft: Story Mode for Netflix will be five-part licensed interactive narrative series.

This sounds like a window is opening for Netflix to slowly take over the game streaming business, but I wouldn't go that far just yet.

Our initial impression was that Netflix's version of Minecraft: Story Mode would be delivered via video files and will accept commands via any remote equipped with directional and select buttons.

The "Minecraft" title is similar to Netflix's choose-your-own-adventure-style interactive shows for kids: "Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale" and "Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile".

Along with this deal between the two companies, Telltale is also reportedly developing a Stranger Things game.

After having worked on titles based around series far and wide involving major franchises like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and more, Telltale Games has given a new look into what lies ahead for the studio outside of its current projects, and it looks like things are about to get unusual. "There's a broad spectrum of entertainment available today". "We're delighted by the response we're seeing to the idea of Minecraft: Story Mode coming to Netflix in the fall as an interactive adventure", Telltale told Deadline. The company was adamant that it doesn't consider an interactive offering to be a game, but rather an extension of the cinematic experience.

Telltale has mentioned wanting to work with the streaming service in the past on several occasions, and it appears that request has finally come to fruition.

Back in December we reported on the possibility of Netflix offering branching path content, and had even pointed to Telltale's The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones as flawless examples of limited interaction experiences that could fit with Netflix's technology. Stranger Things: The Game is available for free and is heavily influenced by retro games from the 80s like The Legend of Zelda. Reports suggest a partnership between Telltale and Netflix could be announced "any day". But it looks like we're waiting to see who'll make the first move in this bold new direction.

Also under the deal, Telltale is producing a game based on "Stranger Things" for consoles and PCs. Right now, Minecraft is the only confirmed game being adapted to Netflix's interactive storytelling.
