"Paul is a special character and he's very important for the team", Sagna, who played for France 65 times, told Sky Sports.

Former France worldwide Emmanuel Petit wants compatriot Paul Pogba to "get angry" at the World Cup this summer.

With France, going into this World Cup, you can be forgiven for thinking they have the best chance to lift the title, considering they are have an experienced goalkeeper, composed defenders, strong midfielders and a wonderfully-talented attack.

The Manchester United star has come in for plenty of criticism this season from fans, the media and even his own manager for failing to play well in back to back fixtures.

The Frenchman started his campaign in fine form but an injury ultimately cost him his momentum and when he returned he struggled to put in top performances.

Kante is certainly capable of this, but he'll have a lot of defensive slack on his plate in this system. Can do everything - he is actually an underrated passer and carrier of the ball - but his key job will be to mop up everything and just move the ball along to the more creative talents in that France squad. I wish we could have Pogba like this every game.

Ultimately, Pogba isn't that much of a liability that he deserves to dropped entirely, and he offers more to the side than he would take away if starting, but the fact of the matter is that there are ways Deschamps can avoid the midfielder if so desired.

While Pogba hasn't enjoyed any major worldwide success similar to that of Petit's, Didier Deschamps' side do remain one of the favourites in Russian Federation.
