The two met in Memphis and had a quick interview with the Today Show, where Alice discussed gaining freedom.

The reality TV star's sister, Khloe Kardashian, appeared in 2009 on NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice", then hosted by Trump, but got the boot halfway through the season.

Cape Town - Kim Kardashian has officially met Alice Marie Johnson - the woman she fought clemency for. "And he laughed, and it broke the ice".

Kardashian West heard about her story and advocated for her pardon and release in a recent meeting with President Donald Trump.

After the president pardoned Johnson, who had already served two decades of her life sentence, it was Kardashian who delivered the good news.

"We spoke about Alice".

"When she said that [I could go home], I went into full-fledged pentacostal holy dance", Johnson said. She added that Trump, with whom she has clashed politically, "had compassion for her right away; he felt like it was the right thing to do".

"While this administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance", the White House said in a statement about Trump's decision.

Johnson was released a week after the meeting. Johnson said of her desperation. "This is just insane - just the history in this one room".

"I hope this inspires more people to talk to the people in power", Kardashian said. "Thank you President Trump for making that wonderful life possible".

"My family's always really supportive". "'You can go home now. Maybe you shouldn't go'".

During the interview, Alice also revealed to Hoda that after Kim took on her cause she kept a photo of the 37-year-old and her husband Kanye West in her Bible. "And I said, 'Wait, you don't know?' And she was like, 'Know what?' And I was like, 'You're going home'".

"Thank you is not big enough, I have to walk it out, I have to live my thank you out", Johnson said. But Kardashian West didn't want to take too much credit for Johnson's release and acknowledged others who tried to help her over the years.
