Id-El-Fitr: FG Declares Friday, Monday Public Holidays

In several countries, the festival of breaking fast will be celebrated on Friday, June 15, while in other countries it will be celebrated on June 14.

According to Met Office, the new moon of Shawwal, 1439 AH will be born on crossing conjunction point at 00-45 PST on June 14.

On June 8, the interior ministry approved a summary for four holidays on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

The committee will review reports of sighting of the moon for the month of Shawwal on Islamic calendar at the Islamic Foundation in the evening.

"Tomorrow's meeting will conclude if the first day of Eid is going to be on Friday or Saturday in the Sultanate", said Yousuf Al Rahbi, Assistant Director of Astronomy Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. The countries will observe the new moon on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman also issued a directive last Tuesday to extend this year's Eid Al Fitr holiday.

Well, the UAE government has declared that the Eid Al Fitr holiday will begin on Thursday for public sector workers, while private sector workers are still waiting to find out if they'll be getting a long weekend.
